Robert “Bob” McNary, 73, Ferrisburgh, VT passed away unexpectedly on August 22, 2016. Bob was born on February 21 in Attleboro, Massachusetts to Arlene and John McNary, (predeceased).
Bob had a love of dairy farming and the outdoors. As a boy and into adulthood, he spent summers on his grandfather’s farm in Attleboro, MA. Bob’s love of dairy farming and a country lifestyle, he and his wife Paulette purchased Eighth Elm Farm on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh.
Bob was an outgoing, gregarious entrepreneur. His love of the outdoors lead him to build and operate the Ferrisburgh Driving Range. Bob wanted others in his community to have the advantage of enjoying family time together and take in the wonderful fields and mountainous settings he had enjoyed. Bob also took a lot of pride in his woodworking and refinishing of furniture. He spent many hours working on pieces with fine detail and care in preserving the character and history of each piece. He received much praise from customers at the Eighth Elm Farm Antiques Shop, for his expert craftsmanship.
Bob was also very involved in his community. He served on many community committees. He was Chair of the Ferrisburgh Fire District #1, Addison County Regional Planning Energy Committee Chair, for a time served on the Addison Country Humane Society as a Board Member, Chaired the Ferrisburgh Energy Committee, served on the Ferrisburgh Town Traffic Committee, Ferrisburgh Train Station/Welcome Center Committee and attended many Ferrisburgh Town Select Board Meetings. He lead many Rain Barrel making demonstrations through the Ferrisburgh Energy Committee. He felt that the preservation of our land, community and environment was important.
Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was especially proud of his family’s accomplishments and loved being called, “Grampy” by his grandchildren. He is survived by Paulette, his wife of 52 years, his daughters, Sandra and her husband Christopher Reck, daughter Kimberly and her husband Carl Crawford and their sons William and Samuel. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Betty and her husband Richard Culton of Arizona.
The family would like to give special thanks to the service and compassion of the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, and the good samaritan, Micheal, who gave assistance. There will be a casual gathering of remembrance of Bob on September 10, 2016 from 2-5 p.m. at the Ferrisburgh Driving Range.
