Henrietta C. (Bedell) Haskins

Henrietta C. (Bedell) Haskins, 82, a long time resident of Bristol, Vermont passed on into glory on January 6, 2018.  She was one of twelve children born to the late Henry Bedell & Persis (Wheelock) Bedell, formerly of Underhill, Vermont.

A consummate mother and homemaker, Henrietta enjoyed cooking for her family. She loved to grow vegetables and flowers, always keeping her home and yard neat and tidy. She loved to feed the birds, crochet, sew and take walks in the woods. She shared her love of these things with her children and her grandchildren. She loved music and, in her later years, spent lots of Sundays with her friends of The Northeast Fiddlers Association, socializing and kicking up her heels. She married Bill Haskins, from Huntington, at a young age and they had four children. They lost Shelby, their youngest, at age 3. After 22 years, they parted. But, I expect he was one of the people waiting for her at Heaven’s Gate.

She attended school, in Hanksville, in a one-room schoolhouse. Upon reaching the 8th grade, she left school to take a job, as was common in those days. She was then educated by life and had much wisdom to share. She worked as a nurses’ aide at Porter Hospital Nursing Home and later doing private duty care.

Left to cherish her memories are her three children; Rodney Haskins, of Bristol, VT, Julie Wedge of Spanish Fort, Alabama and Barbara (& George) Beattie of Waitsfield. Three grandsons; Jared Wedge of Rainbow City, Alabama, Nicholas LeBlanc of Moretown, and Tyler Proulx of Vergennes. One great-grand child; Ella Wedge of Alabama. She is also survived by her siblings; Richard (& Jeannette) Bedell of Bristol, Robert (& Valerie) Bedell, of Bristol, Rogene (& Raymond) Myott of Richmond, Charlotte (& Joe) Little of Milton, and Ruth Manning of So. Royalton, She was predeceased by not only her parents and her daughter, but by her brothers Harland, Langdon, and Ellis Bedell, Sisters Joyce & Virginia Bedell, and Violet LaRose.

The family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Crescent Manor Rehabilitation in Bennington where our mother received such wonderful care.  I believe God sends his angels to work on the “north wing.” Also, our thanks to Olivia from Hospice and Dr. Niemi who were so diligent in their efforts to provide the best care for our mother, day or night.

A funeral service will be held at The Baptist Church, in Bristol (behind the park)

On Sunday, January 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. We will be her memory, so bring your stories.

Instead of flowers, Mom would hope that you would do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for some poor unfortunate soul, in her name. To send online condolences to her family please visit brownmcclayfuneralhomes.com
