  4. It was a cold snowy day in February, many years ago, when I first met Jim. We met on our school bus on the way to school when we were in 7th grade. I was a city boy moving to the country and I had no idea what county living was all about… no knowledge of fishing, hunting, snowmobiling or motorcycling. Jim and I became quick friends and our “country living” adventures began… so many over the years. I remember we were out camping and we accidentally set a huge tree on fire with our bonfire! I remember our first drink on Pine Hill behind the barn. I remember the time we nearly got caught fishing in the pond in front of a camp on Brown Mountain… we got away just in time! I remember hunting with Jim when he saw a deer and BANG… down went the deer. At the same time I exclaimed, ” Jim that’s a doe!” Needless to say, Jim’s Father was very upset with us. I remember braking snowmobile trails over Brown Mountain and Mason Hill in the winter and riding our motorcycles on the dirt roads of Starksboro. Our experiences together were not just playing hard, they also included working hard on the farm and building houses with his father’s instruction. I will always cherish the memories of my younger years spent with Jim. Jim will be dearly missed and fondly remembered for so many reasons.
