Joseph R Mason, 76, of Starksboro VT, passed away peacefully on Saturday November 30, 2024.
Joseph “Joe” was born on March 18th, 1948, to Geraldine Tilley and Raymond Fitzpatrick and later adopted by Wendell and Alvina Mason. After Joe graduated from the Bristol High School in 1966, he joined the Navy in which he served in the Vietnam War.
After his discharge from the navy, he started his many careers which involved working outside as he was not one to be “cooped up” inside. From a lineman to construction, Joe’s passion was working on cars. He held various jobs working as a mechanic and would often be found helping friends in his spare time tinkering in their garage. Joe’s life could be defined by his knowledge on almost anything, his kindness, strength, and willingness to help anyone in need.
Joe is survived by his children Penny (Doug) Dow, April (Bill) Orvis, Wendell, and Star (Tony) Porter; his 10 grandchildren and one great grandson as well as his siblings Genevieve Tatro, Michael Fitzpatrick, Earl Tilley, and Ellis Grace. Also surviving him are his several nieces and nephews. Preceding him are his parents, the mother to his children Barbara and his siblings, Roland, Larry, Donald Sr, and Jon Grace.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Helen Porter Rehabilitation Nursing Home for the wonderful love and care they provided for dad.
Per his request, there will be no services at this time. To send online condolences to his family please visit www.brownmcclayfuneralhomes.com

Sending my condolences to Joe’s family and friends. Joe and I grew up together, and were very good friends. We’ve known each other since we were about 10 years old. Gonna miss him.
