Sylvia Jean Hallock “Silly”

Sylvia Jean Hallock “Silly” age 76 passed away peacefully at her daughter home with family by her side.

Sylvia was the first born October 27, 1949 to Wayne and Gladys (Shiverette) Hallock. Sylvia grew up in Ferrisburgh and graduated from Vergennes Union High School class of 1968.

In 1970 she had her first baby pride and joy Gary Wayne. Then two years later she had her baby girl Tammie Jean. She always put her children first in her life as a single parent.

Sylvia started working at Simmonds Precision later was Goodrich which she retired after 35 years. She also held a second job working and having fun with the crew at Vergennes Variety, where the best sandwiches were made! Sylvia also became her mother’s caregiver when she no longer could live alone which she took much pride. When retirement started Sylvia also cared for many other ladies that meant the world to her.

Mom loved everyone she came in contact with especially her “Boyfriends”. She was free of life always ready to have a great time with her sisters from another mother Janet Brunet dancing, road trip to Virginia to see her extended family. Janet Paquin road trip to Boston and where ever the road traveled. Gloria stokes was her every morning call to check in and we can’t thank John for all he done for mom through the years he was her rent a husband.

To all you baseball fans mom was a true NY YANKEE’S FAN!! Mom loved a good game especially when the opposite team was the Red Sox she held her grounds and boy if her team won you all knew it. She had huge smiles and laughter.

Mom camping at Gary’s house in the summer time always wanted to be helping someone, meeting up at the legion for sign ups even though she didn’t win she would have a favorite drink and maybe a couple Buttery Nipples in hand.

You would also find her sitting on the porch every summer reading a good romance novel book.

Elaine and Gary Russell there is just not enough words to say Thank you!!

Carleen Atkins you made it possible for me to come home and care give with Tammie. She always thought of you as her second daughter. Chelsey Jerome thank you for being there for support it truly meant a lot to all of us.

Sylvia is survived by her son Gary (Bethany) daughter Tammie; grandchildren Trevor, Samantha, Ethan, Kyle, Caleb, Cole; two special in her heart Carrie and Chase Atkins; sister Glenna (Joe) Coyle; two nieces that she adored that called her Aunt Sovie Christina (Mike) Safford, Lisa Hanlon; sister Jennie (Wesley) Kimball.

Preceded by her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, son in law Michael R. Booska.

Her companion dog Zac that she loved so much.

Per Sylvia’s wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral. We will be gathering at the American Legion on May 16, 2026 at 1 pm upstairs where mom will be there waiting to have a drink or shot with all of you!!

  1. I am so sorry to hear this. She was a beautiful soul, inside and out. May she watch over her family and friends, and rest in eternal peace.

  2. Sylvia had such a kind soul. She was willing to help anyone. I worked with her at Simmonds for about 20 years. I send my condolences to Gary and Tammie and the family.

  3. My dear bridge sister #1. May you rest easy I’m sure in no time you’ll be up there dancing with all your friends and family. Until we meet again fly high!
