David James Mason of Starksboro
David (Stoney) Mason,88, died unexpectedly at his home in Starksboro, VT on Thursday, March 26, 2020. He was born April 28, 1931 to Gale Mason and Ruth (Hullett) Mason in Starksboro.
Dave lived a full life of hard work as a farmer, cheese maker, sawmill worker, and most notably as a renowned dry stone wall mason. As testimony to his love of Mother Nature, David lives on through his magnificent dry stone walls as they grace the landscape in all of VT, throughout New England, and across the country.
David is survived by his beloved wife Bette J (Alger) Mason, his son Richard Mason and wife Heather Purinton and grandson Everett Mason of Hinesburg.
He was predeceased by one brother Don Mason.

Just read a great article in Vermont Life magazine summer 1999 issue about Stoney Mason and his legacy of Vermont rock wall building tradition. His signature rock walls will hopefully stand tall and proud for the next 500 years.
