Evelyn G. Smith, 96 of Monkton, VT, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 30, 1928, in Fayston, Vermont, the daughter of Harold and Almira Griffith. Evelyn had a lifelong love for learning and a deep passion for teaching. She began career by opening a kindergarten class in her home and later taught at Bristol Elementary School for 25 years, where she made a lasting impact on generations of students.

Evelyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially watching tennis and golf-she was known for her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness and presence will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her three children: Michael and his wife Cathy Smith of Bristol, VT; Craig Smith of Mineville, NY; and Gary and his wife Kimberly Smith of Bristol, VT. She also leaves behind four grandchildren-Cameron, Dana and her husband Nick and their son Max, Ryan, and Danielle, her husband Alex and their children Karlie and Kolby.

Evelyn was predeceased by her beloved husband, William Smith, and her daughter Linda Shepard.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 5th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday August 6th at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol.     I do hope all the wonderful memories you made with Evelyn will warm your hearts and bring a smile to your face for years to come. Words just don’t convey the life of someone that had great influence in the life of her family, friends, and her students. She sure did herself proud. My condolences to you all. I regret I am unable to join at her services but I will take a few moments to think of you and your incredible mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
