John Michael Allen

                John Michael Allen, 71, of Charlotte passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 in Burlington surrounded by family. John was born on August 4, 1947 in Burlington to the late Harold Shea and Lillian (Ramsey) Allen. John was preceded in death by his father, Harold, his mother, Lillian, and his brother, James Allen.

                He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Daniel Osgood, his wife, Carolyn (Cushman) Allen, and his children, Kelly Allen, Jenny Allen and Jake Boyer (son-in-law), Katie and Andrew Jones (son-in-law), and James and Heather Allen (daughter-in-law), 5 grandchildren, and several friends, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

                A lifelong New England sports fan, John worked for many years in Athletics at the University of Vermont. He served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion. John loved spending time with the people in his life  from his annual Christmas Eve party, to catching up with friends at Cardiac Rehab. In the summer, you could find John grilling, mowing, and taking meticulous care of his pool for his children and grandchildren to enjoy. He always made sure everyone knew they were welcome in his home.

                The family would like to thank the staff of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the University of Vermont Medical Center for providing John with excellent care.

                Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, September 22 at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes from 6 to 8 pm.  A memorial service will be held 11 am on Sunday, September 23 at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Attn: Development, 875 N. Randolph St. Ste 225, Arlington, VA 22203.
