Lolke (Lou) H. Vorsteveld, 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, May 8 2016 following a productive life.
Lolke was born on May 27, 1934 in Emmen, The Netherlands and was married to Antje Koopman, his strength and soul mate, on May 21, 1960. She predeceased him on June 14, 1993.
A lifelong farmer, he and Antje moved from Holland to their farm in Panton during the summer of 1979 to provide a brighter future for their 5 boys.
After retirement, he enjoyed watching his sons run the farm. He passionately played the accordion at home, local nursing homes, and taught most of his grandchildren. The Vorsteveld Family Band under his leadership has been an annual attraction at the Addison County Field Days for the past several years.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Grietje Hagenauw. He is also survived by his sister, Jantje and brother, Harman, both from the Netherlands. He is also survived by his son, Lou of Derry, NH and his wife, Wynie; son Hans of Panton, and wife Melissa; son Andre of Bridport and his wife Lydia; and sons Gerard and Rudy, both from Panton; 18 grandchildren and 3 great children.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes. Reception to follow at the Antidote, 35C Green Street in Vergennes. In lieu of flowers, Lolke would appreciate donations to the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, 106 Panton Rd, Vergennes, VT 0549
