Marilla Sorrell, a long time resident of Addison County, VT died on Tuesday, the 15th of November at the Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, VT.
Born on January 16th, 1934, to Roy and Marion Place, Marilla grew up in Addison, VT. She attended Green Mountain College and married Richard (Dick) Sorrell on September 29th, 1953. They lived in Colorado Springs, CO while Dick was stationed there with the US Military. Marilla gave birth to their only son Richard (Rick) E. Sorrell in 1955. After returning to Vermont, Marilla worked in the loan department for many years for the Chittenden Bank. She was the Vice President of their Burlington Branch.
After she retired from the bank she worked as the Secretary at the Addison Elementary school. After she decided to retire for the second time, she continued working at the Shelburne Museum as well as volunteering at the Bixby Library and with Meals on Wheels.
Marilla was a woman who couldn’t sit still, in her sixties she still enjoyed roller blading with her grand children and even went sky diving.
Marilla is predeceased by her parents Roy and Marion Place, Husband Dick Sorrell, son Rick Sorrell, and sister Marjorie Morin.
Marilla is survived by her sister, Virginia Mulliss of Addison, VT, her four grandchildren: Richard K Sorrell of San Diego, CA; Daniel J Sorrell of Ferrisburgh, VT; Michael R Sorrell of West Chester, PA; and Rachel A Sorrell of Middlebury, VT as well as 5 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A small private graveside service will be held for Marilla, gifts and donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name.
