Michael Scott Poirier, 53, passed away on August 22, 2025, in New Haven, Vermont surrounded by his family. Born on November 12, 1971, in Burlington, Vermont, Michael lived a life rooted in love for family and the great outdoors.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, Michael was known for his big heart and sharp sense of humor. His warmth and laughter left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Sturtevant their dog Tanner; his daughters Jessica Sturtevant (fiancé Mike Emilo), Brittany Wenzel (husband Steven Wenzel), and Tarah Poirier (husband Andrew Thorpe); and his cherished grandchildren Lucas Emilo, Jonathan Poirier, Maddie Johnston, and Rhett Wenzel. He also leaves behind his brothers Jeremy Poirier and Lonnie Lavallee (wife Jeana Lavallee); nieces Chelsea McGuire (husband Matt McGuire and their children Levi and Shiloh) and Emily Lavallee; nephews Noah Poirier, Gabe Lavallee, Jason Sturtevant (and his daughter Lilah), and Bradley Sturtevant (wife Olivia and their daughter Lunella); along with many other extended family members who held a special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his mother Holly Ford; sister Rose Lavallee; in-laws Francis and Margaret Sturtevant; and brother-in-law Bruce Sturtevant.
Michael found joy in the simple pleasures of life—fishing along quiet streams, hunting in the woods he loved so dearly, riding motorcycles through winding roads, and spending time outdoors whenever he could.
Michael also enjoyed his time volunteering for the New Haven fire department, selflessly assisting all of those who needed a helping hand. These passions reflected his deep connection to nature and his adventurous caring spirit.
His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with kindness, humor, and unwavering love. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
A celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 30th from 12 Noon to 4 p.m. at American Legion, 49 Wilson Road, Middlebury, VT 05753.
