1938-2016

Armand E Benoit 78, a longtime resident of Ferrisurgh, passed away with his family by his side after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s on October 15, 2016.

Born in Burlington on October 8, 1938. He was the son of the late Leo and Laurette (Brault) Benoit.  On June 10, 1961 he married the love of his life, Mary Rivers.

Armand was employed at Good Year Tire and Rubber for 23 years; in 1982 he started Benoit’s Engine Repair at home which he continued to operate with his special nephew Michael Lucier until his illness would no longer allow him to.

Armand took great pride in his homestead as he very meticulously took care of his landscape, which he was very proud of. He enjoyed Snowmobiling, Dancing at the Eagles, Pulling and restoring antique tractors and farm equipment. His favorite pastime of all was spent with his family, especially dear to his heart grandchildren, J.P. and Eliza.

Armand leaves behind his two children Jim Benoit of Ferrisburgh, Laurie Wheatley and her husband Scott of Fairfax; two grandchildren Jaymes (J.P.) Benoit and Eliza Wheatley; a brother Ernest Benoit and wife Marie, sister Jeanette Lucier and husband John of Ferrisburgh; a brother-in-law James Rivers and wife Carol of Florida and sister-in-law Claire Rivers of Vergennes and several nieces and nephews.  Armand was predeceased by his wife Mary Benoit of 54 years, a brother Fernand Benoit and sister Yvette Sturtevant.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Katrina Jerger, Diane Wissle, Makayla Harrington, Andy Mitchell and many others for taking very special care of our Father.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 19th at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes from 5 to 8 p.m. A celebration of Armand’s life will be held at St. Peters Church, Vergennes, VT on Thursday,  October 20th at 9:30 am.
