Carol (Bristol) Jennings of Vergennes passed peacefully surrounded by her children on August 31, 2017 after a long illness. She was born to Kenneth and Kathleen (Kay) Bristol of Vergennes on July 9, 1939. Her sister Brenda predeceased her in June 2010.
Husband Terry Jennings predeceased her in May 2011. Together they raised five very spirited children on Short Street in Vergennes: Stephen and his wife Theresa of Underhill, VT, Catherine and David Long of Douglas, GA, Laura and James Bachand of New Haven, VT, Maureen Jennings of Somerville, MA, and Eric Jennings of Wilmington, MA.
Carol was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne’s Society, the Red Hats Society, and Friends of the Bixby Library. Carol was known for both her bold fashion sense and being a voracious reader, the scarier the better. Always the social butterfly, Carol found great comfort in the community at St. Peters Catholic church in Vergennes, the many friends at the Vergennes Senior housing complex, and most recently the wonderful staff and residents at Shard Villa in Salisbury, VT. Her greatest pleasure, though, came at the holidays when her grandchildren and great grandchild would visit with “Nana.” Carol’s family would also like to express their deep gratitude for the excellent and compassionate care provided to their mother over the past months by the Visiting Nurses Association, Addison County Home Health and Hospice, and the Shard Villa staff.
Visiting hours will be from 5-7 pm Saturday, Sept 2 at the Brown-McClay funeral home located at 48 S. Maple St., Vergennes. A funeral service will take place Sunday, Sept 3 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church located at 85 S. Maple St. in Vergennes at 1 pm. Interment will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery in Hardwick VT.
