Jane Grace

Jane Grace passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in Vergennes, Vermont. A fixture in the Town of Addison and the surrounding community for more than 60 years, Jane devoted herself to public service and family.

Jane served as Town Clerk of Addison for over 40 years, retiring amid a grand celebration attended by friends, family, and colleagues. She also served as a dispatcher for The Addison Fire Department and Town Line First Response for more than 25 years.

Jane loved her animals: dogs, cats, and especially her horses, only occasionally the sheep, but the chickens not so much. She took great joy in her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved attending car shows, and cruising with her Chester High School sweetheart and husband, Phil. Ever present for her family, she supported them with steadfast love and heartfelt advice.

Jane is survived by her husband of 62 years, Phil Grace; her brothers Tim (Jean) Butler, and Jeff (Abby) Butler; her sons Michael (Margo) Grace of Waltham, VT, and Christopher (Natalie) Grace of Windham, NH; and her granddaughters Julie (Ethan Rice) Grace of Addison, VT, and Bash Grace of Windham, NH.

There will be a private burial. Jane’s Celebration of Life will be May 20th, 4-7pm, at the Addison Fire Department.

  1. Jane’s devotion to family, her years of loyal service to Addison and dispatching for Addison Fire Department is legendary throughout many counties in Vermont.
I always knew who to call when I needed help in my years at ANWSD. Her positive attitude and her beautiful smile shone even over the phone. Rest in Peace, Dear Lady. You blessed many, many lives.

  2. Jane and I worked together in the Simmonds Precision Human Resources Department in the late 1960’s and after she left Simmonds, I would often visit with her at her home. She was such a wonderful, caring and loving person to all she knew.

I love that great smile she always had and the picture brings back memories of wonderful times together.

We also knew her through the Addison County Firefighters Association and the Vermont Fire Wardens Program. My husband, Dave and I looked forward to seeing Jane & Phil at annual dinners for each of these organizations.

May she rest in peace and may her family know that all are in our prayers for peace during this time of loss.

  3. I only met Mrs. Grace a few years back but I’ve known her son, Michael, much longer, & her granddaughter, ‘Julie-bird’ (forgive me, Julie! 😉) for a good few years now.

I only wish to say, “God bless & Godspeed” and congratulations & well done, for your legacy of raising your children & your grandchildren!!

Condolences to the entire family in this difficult time. May she rest now.

  4. To the Grace Family ~ we are so very sorry to hear of Jane’s passing. She was such a beautiful and magnetic force in our snowmobile community. I truly enjoyed working with her and Phil in the snowmobile booth at Field Days selling raffle tickets, she could really draw them in! Very positive, energetic and always had a beautiful smile on her face. Our thoughts and prayers are with Phil, Mike and Margo at this time.

    Kind regards,
    Robert & Lisa Viau
