Jason Clifford Wood

Jason Clifford Wood, a father, son, brother, husband, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2023.

Jason was born on April 28, 1974, in Burlington, Vermont. He was the son of Brett Wood Sr. and Karen and Adrian Irish.

As a child, Jason was always moving. He loved to hunt and fish and was always playing a game of some sorts, usually rallying all of the Starksboro neighborhood kids to join him. Jason loved playing baseball and was a member of the Mt. Abraham Union High School varsity baseball team. After high school, he joined the Marine Corps and served for 20 years. making the rank of E7, Gunnery Sergeant. He served three tours in Fallujah, Iraq, and Afghanistan, along with peacekeeping missions, including one to Estonia. Jason was a proud Marine and saw it as his greatest duty to serve his country.

After retiring from the Marine Corps, Jason settled in the South to be close to his children who were his pride and joy. He loved spending time with them, always suggesting things like fishing, bowling, going to the beach, or just watching Cops, Judge Judy, and Jerry Springer on TV! His love for his dog, Goliath, was just as equal to that of his children (if not more at times)!

Jason was a caring, loving, blatantly honest (to a fault at times) person. He cared a lot and loved even harder. He had a gruff exterior, an honest tongue and a personality that could take some getting used to, but if he let you in then he would do anything he could to help you if you were ever in need.

Jason is survived by: his wife Alyssa Wood; children, Keana, Shayna, and Matthew Wood of Orlando and Jacksonville, Florida, and their mother Katherine Wirick Wood; his mother Karen Irish, and his siblings Robert Todd Wood (Anne), Melody Wood, Brett Wood (Patty) and Jarred Wood (Amy). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and his extended family who he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his father Brett Wood Sr. and his dad Adrian Irish.

He was our protector in life and we know he’ll continue being our guardian angel now that he is gone.

The family would like to welcome anyone to join us in a celebration of Jason’s life on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at the Brown McClay Funeral Home in Bristol from 5pm-8pm.  At 6:30pm the family invites you to join us in some prayers, sharing, and song.
